Occupy Supply Contest Rules
Questions? Email us at occupysupply@firedoglake.com
- The contest is open to all occupations in the United States.
- An occupation can be nominated whether it currently has an encampment or not.
- Only community-specific actions will be considered. Since many occupations have collectively engaged in national actions, it makes it impossible to award one group credit over another. However, local-specific actions taken as part of programs like Occupy Our Homes that impact individual community members (in this case homeowners) do qualify.
- Nominations will open on Thursday, January 26th, 2012 at 9:00AM EST and close on Sunday, January 29th, 2012 at 11:59PM EST.
- There is no limit to the number of times an occupation can be nominated.
- Each nomination must be accompanied by a link that verifies the action for which the occupation is being nominated.
- In the case of multiple nominations per individual occupation, Occupy Supply will use its discretion to choose the action(s) it believes will best represent that individual occupation for consideration in final voting.
- Voting will open on Monday, January 30th, 2012 at 9:00AM EST and close on Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 at 11:59PM.
- The top 20 vote recipients from the initial round of voting will move on to the final round, which begins on Thursday, February 2nd at 9:00AM EST and closes on Saturday, February 4th at 11:59PM EST.
- In the event of a tie, Occupy Supply liaisons will cast tie-breaking votes on the Sunday, February 5th 2012 liaison conference call.
- Winners will be announced at Firedoglake on Monday, February 6th, 2012.
- Limit is 1 vote per person.
- Occupations are free to lobby for support and encourage people to vote for their actions by blogging about them on myFDL, linking to the contest on their website, Twitter or Facebook page, encouraging local community members to vote for them or publicizing the contest at their encampments or General Assemblies.
- The top vote-getters will be contacted by Occupy Supply if necessary to determine whether they have the ability to make immediate use of a tent after the close of the contest on Saturday, February 4th, 2012.
- In order to qualify to receive a tent, an occupation must have either a permanent encampment or access to a space that is centrally located and occupied during the day.
- Occupations that have been served eviction notices do not qualify unless they can produce a viable plan to move that has been approved by the General Assembly.
- The occupation must plan to use the tent immediately. No tents will be awarded to occupations that intend to put the tents in storage for future use.
- The top three occupations that cannot accept a tent will receive a laptop equipped with a web cam.
- It is the sole discretion of Occupy Supply as to whether an occupation is qualified to receive a tent.
- Occupy Supply reserves the right to consider any other criteria it deems relevant to determine whether an occupation can receive a tent.
- If the place in which an occupation uses a tent is raided or if the occupation is evicted and does not have immediate plans to utilize the tent in another space, the occupation must contact Occupy Supply so we can take the appropriate steps to insure the tent is used elsewhere and does not go to waste.
- Minimum age to vote is 13
