Board of Directors

The Firedoglake Membership Board oversees direction and policies pursuant to our membership Mission Statement and Bylaws. Among other duties, the Board oversees FDL Association finances and long-term development.

Board Members are drawn from the FDL member community, including long-time commentors and contributors to FDL, and help to plan actions involving member participation.


Edwin M. Walker (“Masaccio”), Chair

Ed serves as the Board’s Chair. A Notre Dame grad with a law degree from Indiana University, Ed was a corporate and securities lawyer in Ohio, an Assistant Attorney General and then securities commissioner in Tennessee. He practiced business and bankruptcy law for 25 years. Ed writes as “masaccio” on financial and other matters.

Ryan Cook, Secretary / Treasurer

Ryan is a specialist in online communications and helped develop and administer FDL’s membership program. He serves as the Board’s Secretary/Treasurer. Ryan attended Roger Williams University majoring in Criminal Justice and Psychology and has worked on policy/political campaigns at Firedoglake and throughout the country.

Brian Sonenstein, Vice Chair

Brian directs technology and activism at Firedoglake.com. He attended Wheaton College in Massachussetts, studying international politics and social movements in Latin America. Brian was previously a blogger/organizer for Living Liberally and has helped coordinate Firedoglake’s activism and technology since 2009.
